He lives in Berlin and studied at the University of Applied Sciences in Potsdam in Germany and at the Design Academy in Eindhoven, The Netherlands. He has worked as a freelance designer for several studios in Holland including Jongeriuslab / Hella Jongerius, Baukje Trenning and Joost Grootens. In 2005 he founded the studio Officeoriginair together with the Dutch designer Ivan Kasner.
Apart from this collaboration, Uli Budde has been working on its own since 2009 in Berlin, concentrating on projects related to furniture, tableware and lighting.
The work of Uli Budde investigates everyday objects by providing new thoughtful and functional solutions. Their designs are easily understood and integrated into everyday life with non-intrusive simplicity. In short, the objects have a strong poetic and graphic distinctive without losing sight of the functionality.
Among its clients is Royal VKB, Vertigo Bird, Marset and others. His projects with Officeoriginair have been awarded the Dutch Design Award, the Gio Award, two Red Dot awards in 2012 and the Design Plus award in 2014. In 2010 and 2011, he has also received the Faces of Design Award.
