In the beginning, there was only the carbon-filament bulb – invented by Thomas Alva Edison – plus the Radio. Radium was founded in 1904 in Wipperfürth, located about 40km northeast of Cologne in the Bergische Land. Shortly after this, the production of lamps with high quality tungsten wires began here.
